St George's - Making new Friends at Lunchtime Initiative

At St George's we want to make lunchtimes a really positive time as well as being an opportunity to develop oracy, make new friendships and build relationships.

We decided to create new mixed year group table groupings this term and provide conversation starter cards. CaterEd kindly donated new tablecloths, vases and the holders for the prompts. The children created flowers for the vases.

We noticed straight away how much calmer the hall was and that there was less food waste as the children remain in the hall for the duration of their sitting and are eating more. The playground was calmer and District Sports were pleased to see how many more children they were able to engage in sports activities.

A few children were worried that they may not be sat with their best friend at lunch time but other children reassured them that it was a good opportunity to make some new friends which was great to hear.

What a lovely start to the new year!
